LEEP Coalition Urges the White House to End the LNG Moratorium

Lake Charles Louisiana – Today, the Louisiana Energy Export Partners Coalition and other concerned Louisiana industry groups sent a letter to the White House urging the administration to reconsider its decision to delay new liquefied natural gas (LNG) export permits as it harms Louisiana’s local economy and puts our national security in peril.

The Pelican State is home to plentiful ports and an abundance of natural resources; this has facilitated a flourishing LNG industry, providing crucial economic opportunities and community investments that many Louisianans depend on. The administration’s decision to suspend new LNG export permits keeps these possibilities out of reach, harming Louisianans’ prosperity. Alongside the effect on our state’s economy, the LNG moratorium jeopardizes our international relationships as our allies depend on this essential energy for their countries’ operations.

Our great state of Louisiana, with its rich history and culture, is a cornerstone for American energy,” reads the letter. “Natural gas exports are a large part of what makes Louisiana’s energy sector such a powerhouse. In 2022 alone, 63 percent of all American LNG exports left from Louisiana’s export terminals. In fact, Louisiana’s LNG industry is, in many ways, the linchpin for our state’s critical role in supporting energy supply both domestically and internationally.
