GIFFORD BRIGGS: LNG provides solutions to both climate and energy affordability

Gifford Briggs wrote a letter on NOLA.com discussing the consequences of President Biden’s decision to stall permits for LNG export facilities.

Excerpt:

“In fact, a recent report from Energy Ventures Analysis shows Americans benefit from among the lowest residential natural gas prices globally even as the U.S. leads the world in LNG exports. The more we produce, transport and export our abundant supply of natural gas, the more Louisiana gains.

The administration’s decision to suspend LNG export approvals should be reevaluated. Last year, the U.S. Energy Information Administration announced the U.S. exported more LNG than any other country for the first time in history. This was in large part a result of the thriving oil and gas sector in Louisiana, driven by the people and economy of the Pelican State.

Lawmakers should champion energy policies that ensure the Gulf Coast’s continued energy leadership. The Biden administration’s current LNG policy will not only have a negative impact on Louisianans, but on global emissions goals as nations may be forced to switch back to coal from natural gas.

Our long-term ability to provide clean, reliable energy to our allies abroad depends on smart energy policies that empower American energy infrastructure projects and exports.”
